It’s official: 2020 is over (and we’re not mad about it). And with a new year comes plenty of excitement and a chance to bring something new to your look. It’s the perfect time to say goodbye to darker winter colors and hello to beautiful pastel sweaters and tops that pop! Ready to jump into 2021 fashion with soft colors that stand out? Here’s what pastels can bring to your wardrobe.

Pick Your Pastel

Pastels often get pigeonholed into the Easter season, but we’re here to defy those rules. We think that pastels are the perfect transition piece from winter to spring. For some, it’s simple to put together a stunning pastel ensemble from head to toe. But others may find that a touch of pastel here and there goes a long way. With so many options, it all comes down to finding what fits your unique look.

Darker hair and complexions give a great contrast with those cotton candy hues. This makes it easier to add more pastels to an outfit for a look that really stands out. So, pulling off a monochrome or mainly pastel outfit is a definite option. It’s great to experiment and see for yourself!

But, women with light hair and fair skin might want a different approach. Bright pastels work great, but an overabundance of pastels can make the wearer look paler than they would like. It’s kind of like turning the brightness on your TV to the max. Adding some dark elements to the outfit can give it balance that also complements light hair and skin complexions. In this case, pairing a pastel top or a pastel sweater with a deep-colored jacket, handbag, or skirt can give you bright hues with a flattering contrast.

Pairing Your Pastel

The best thing about pastels is how they can set off an outfit. Because this palette adds so much personality, half the fun is finding new ways to incorporate it into your style! Here are some ideas for adding soft, fun colors that work together.

  • Color Blocking: It’s not always easy to pull off, but it can look a-maz-ing! Color blocking pairs two or three solid colors together, often using bold, bright colors. The colors will typically be from opposite sides of the color wheel. Since pastels already stand out, color blocking can take them to another level. Lucky for you, we’ve done most of the hard work with these color block sweaters. Pair them with some basic bottoms and you’re all set!
  • Monochrome: With this style, your entire ‘fit is focused on one color. It looks great with neutrals, but you’ll be shocked at how well it works with bright pastels. Our favorite monochrome look right now is a sophisticated pastel set—great for work, brunch, and really anything!
  • Sweaters and Tops: Who said style can’t be comfy? The soft, cheery colors of a pastel sweater or top can pair great with your favorite jeans. Add a pastel handbag and/or shoes to complete the look.

Pastel Styles Brighten Up the New Year

If you found pastels intimidating in the past, the new year is the perfect time to try a new style! Plus, they’re great transition colors into spring. And it can be as simple as adding a new pastel-colored sweater or accessory to your outfit. It’s all about finding your perfect pastel.
